A Letter To The Overwhelmed Writer

Dear Overwhelmed Writer,

I see the coffee you’re drinking just to make it through your day, a day that’s filled with more chores, bills, never-ending-landry, and work than you know what to do with. I see you give all you have just to make it to your too-late bedtime.

And I know you feel tired and that you’re not sure tomorrow’s going to be any different. I know it’s a struggle to even call yourself a writer because you aren’t sure you deserve the title.

You think because you’re not writing daily or hitting word counts you somehow don’t measure up. Guilt grips tight because you haven’t met any of your writing goals and you aren’t sure you even want to make new ones.

Breath.

It’s okay.

You’re not alone.

There are good days, good weeks, good months, and then there are months when progress is minuscule. When we feel like we’re not enough. Times when our revisions show us how much needs to be deleted instead of how awesome we are. Times when the effort just doesn’t seem worth it. Our far-off dream of being a writer seems ridiculous.

But fear is a liar.

Things won’t be hard forever.

Your dreams and your work is not in vain.

Even five minutes over and over again can add up to big progress. Even the bad drafts are worth something cause we’re still learning.

For now, be easy with yourself.

You’re trying so hard. You have so much on your plate, on your mind.

I see you.

When you get a few seconds, breath deep. Sit down. Drink some tea and just be still.

Take care of yourself and know that you’ll be a writer whether you’ve written 0 words today or 10,000.

Writers write, it’s as simple as that. We dream impossible dreams.

Today you might be tired. The work might seem overwhelming.

But tomorrow is a new day. And the day after that will bring new chances and fresh progress.

You’re in good company, dear writer. Hang in there, don’t give up, and know that you are bold and strong even if you don’t feel like it.

You matter.

I believe in you.

With all the best writing wishes,

Bethany

  1. Howdy, There’s no doubt that your blog may be
having internet browser compatibility issues. Whenever I take
a look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine however,
when opening in Internet Explorer, it’s got some overlapping issues.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Aside from that, fantastic website!
